WABA Message templates and their customization

Once you've authorized your channel and followed the other recommendations in our previous article, you can start using the functionality, but it's important not to skip any steps:

  1. Template verification
    To be able to write first from our system, you need to “match” the template with Meta. To do this, go to "Settings" - "Message Templates" - "WABA" and select the desired channel. Click the button to add the template.


    In the window that opens, you must fill in the following:
    1. all fields in the "General Information" block.

    Template Name:
    You can choose any name you like.
    Template Service Name:
    This is also required according to Meta rules.
    Template Category:
    This depends on the purpose for which you'll be using it: UTILITY for Altegio templates and MARKETING for mass mailings.
    The template can be used in messenger:
    allows to use your template in the "Dialogue" templates category.

    2. In the "Template Content" block you can select:
    Caption and header type
    are the first third of the message, where you can choose any type of information, including images and videos. If text is included, it will appear above the message body.

    Message body is the text that will be sent below the header and above the footer.

    Footnote – text contained at the very bottom.

    You can leave these fields blank if you wish, you do not have to fill them all in.

    3. Optionally, you can customize the template buttons.
    Send a message to the bot – Clicking these buttons will automatically send the message specified in the "Text on the button" field. This is useful when you want a button click to activate, for example, a command from the main menu.
    If you want the button text to contain a different message, but still serve as an activation for a specific template, you can enter the system-wide text in the "Value" field. This means that the text from the "Button Text" field will be visible to you and the client, but will be displayed differently in the system.

    Reference – when the button is clicked, the client will be redirected to the link specified in the "Value" field.
    Phone Number – When clicking the button, the client will be prompted to create a contact with the number specified in "Value."
    The template with the above settings will look like this:

    Once you've finished editing the template, click the blue "Save" button in the top right. This will send the template to Meta for review. The template list displays its status; it should update within 5-30 minutes, and the template will be either approved or rejected. If the template is rejected, recreate it.

  2. Customizing Altegio and the main menu templates
    Now that the templates have been confirmed, you can go to the desired Altegio template and, instead of text, select the corresponding WABA template for use in this channel.

    In the main menu, you should set up responses to buttons if they were added in the templates. Activation messages must match the words that were entered in the "Value" field.
