WABA Message Templates and How to Configure Them

Once you’ve verified your channel and followed the other guidelines, you can start using the features, but it’s important not to skip any steps:

Template
Verification
To send your first message through our system, you need to “approve” the template with Meta. To do this, go to “Settings” > “Message Templates” > “WABA,” and select the desired channel. Click the button to add a template.

In the window that opens, fill out the following:
1. All
fields in the “General Information” section.

You can name the template whatever is convenient for you.
The template’s internal name must also be filled in according to Meta’s rules.
The template category depends on how you plan to use it: “UTILITY” for Altegio templates and “MARKETING” for mass mailings.
The template can be used in the messenger: this option allows you to use the template in the “Conversations” section within its own template subsection.

2. In the “Template Content” section, you can select:
Header and header type
—this is the first third of the message, where you can include any type of content, such as images and videos. If you choose text, it will appear above the message body.
Message Body – the text that will appear below the header and above the footer.
Footer – the text at the very bottom.
If you wish, you can leave these fields blank; you don’t have to fill them all out.

3. Optionally, you can customize the buttons for the template.
Send a message to the bot – When these buttons are clicked, the client will automatically send the message specified in the "Button Text" field. This is useful when you want clicking a button to trigger, for example, a command from the main menu.
If you want the button text to display one message but still trigger a specific template, you can enter the text that will be “visually” displayed in the “Value” field. In other words, the text from the “Button Text” field will be displayed visually, but it will be shown differently within the system.
Link—when the button is clicked, the customer will be redirected to the link specified in the “Value” field.
Phone number—when the button is clicked, the customer will be prompted to create a contact with the number specified in “Value.”
A template with the settings above will look like this:

Once you’ve finished editing the template, click the blue “Save” button in the top-right corner—this will send the template to Meta for review. The template list shows the status; within 5–30 minutes, it should update, and the template will be either approved or rejected. If the template is rejected, create it again.

Configuring Altegio Templates and the Main Menu
Now that the templates are approved, you can go to the desired Altegio template and select the corresponding WABA template instead of the text to use on this channel.
In the main menu, you should configure the responses for the buttons if they were added in the templates. The messages used to trigger them must match the words specified in the “Value” field.
